Comments Off

I've turned the comments off here. Got tired of coming in every few days to delete page after page of comment spam. If you want to contact me, surf on over to The Sonnet Project or Defined By Negatives and leave a comment on the latest post. Or try sstandridge AT gmail DOT com.

I'm going to do something with this domain, but it probably won't involve Drupal. I'm sure there are better ways to use it than I have been, but I haven't had the time or inclination to figure them out. Anyhoo, if anybody's still watching...well, keep watching.

Undead Anthologies 2 and 3 are Out, and the First Reviews are In

After what seems like years--wait a sec, it HAS been years! ;) --the zombie anthologies that accepted a couple of my stories are finally out from Permuted Press, marking the first time I have appeared in an honest to god, ISDN-numbered BOOK. Two of 'em, even! In case my legion of fans wants to get hold of several boxes to distribute as gifts to loved ones, here they are on Amazon:

UPDATED: Sponsor Me in the Walk to Cure Diabetes!

UPDATE: The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is TOMORROW!

If you've been waiting till the last minute to sponsor Scott "Sonnet Boy" Standridge in support of this good cause, well, HERE IT IS!

Click Here to Make a Donation Online!

And thanks to the very, very generous folks who've already sponsored me. You rock!

--------------------------------------------------------

As most folks who know me know, I've had type-1 diabetes since I was 17 years old. It sucks, a lot, for all kinds of financial, emotional, career and health-oriented reasons. But it's starting to look as though there might be hope--for the first time experts are seriously predicting we'll see an out-and-out cure in our lifetimes.

Anyway, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation funds an awful lot of research, and every year sponsors the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Most years I participate, as this is obviously a pet cause of mine.

If you can and would like to sponsor me in this walk--$5, $10, whatever you can afford--I'd be eternally grateful. Once I'm cured, I'll buy you a coke. :) You can donate online by following the link below. Please do.

Sponsor Scott in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes!

Thanks.

My Movie Review Blog

Anybody still out there? Well, if so, you might be interested to know that my good buddy Nate and I have started our own b-movie essay site, Mad Mad Mad Mad Movies. I'm "The Vicar of VHS" and he's "The Duke of DVD." We've got lots of reviews that we wrote over the last year or so just back and forth to each other in e-mails that we're posting as time allows, and new ones as we watch more mad movies. So anyway, there's that. Check it out.

Also, that anthology I'm in? It's available now. See below for details.

Anthology Update: Pre-Order Scott's Zombie Stories!

Well, it seems like a loooooooooooong time since I found out I had a couple of stories accepted for inclusion in two zombie-themed horror anthologies, but it looks like the time has finally come for publication. I have one story each in both The Undead: Skin and Bones and The Undead: Flesh Feast, coming out in August and available for pre-order with free shipping right now from Permuted Press.

Click here to reserve your copies!

In the first anthology my story, "Till the Lord Comes," is about a shy young man who deals with his grief over his mother’s death in an unusual way (don’t worry, it’s actually kinda sweet in a decomposing sort of way…). In the second book my story, "If You Believe," is a re-telling of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”…with zombies.

Anyway, if you like this sort of thing, or just want to possess my first anthology appearances for posterity, go pre-order the books to avoid disappointment. And if you do order, I will gladly personally inscribe your copy! How can you pass it up? :)

Well, I'm Finished

The Sonnet Project is complete. Please go to the latest entry to post your thoughts/compliments/insults.

Sonnet Countdown: A Fortnight to Go

I figure anybody reading here is also aware of my poetry blog, The Sonnet Project, the goal of which is to write a sonnet a day every day for a full year.

Well, fourteen poems from now, The Sonnet Project will be complete. Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise.

Fear Fest Photos

Just got back from the Texas Fear Fest 07, and it was a blast. I plan to do a detailed write-up a la my World Horror Convention entries last year, but until then, enjoy these photos I took while I was there, hobnobbing with the horror hoi polloi.

Return of the Invasion of the Uncanny Scott's Ghastly Fear Fest Fotos!

They're pretty low-res for upload--the originals are > 1MB each. So if you need more detail, let me know.

Monster Brains

Cool art blog discovered by the ever-vigilant simians at MonkeyFilter.

MONSTER BRAINS.

Great horror and fantastical artwork. I'll definitely be browsing there a lot.

Media Forums: Slight Organizational Changes

If anyone's still reading, but only scanning the front page for new posts, you may be missing the "recent comments" list at the left here, which is where most of my updating is going on these days--specifically in the "Books I Have Read" and "Movies I have Watched" forums. In the interest of making these easier to navigate, I've put in quick reference lists (alphabetized by title) at the top of each forum. So if you want to see what I think about what I've been watching or reading, there's the place to go.

As for the regular blog posts--well, my life is pretty boring. I'll post when I have something to say. In the meantime, enjoy my rave review of Chopping Mall or my blistering pan of The Electric Michelangelo by clicking on the recent comments links or on the Media Forums links at the right.
